What is the life expectancy of someone with hep C & ESLD who does not seek treament ?

Actually a person with Hep C can live a long normal life without treatment. As long as they have not damaged the liver too badly by drinking and hard drugs. My husband has had hep c for 40 years, and never knew it until about 10 years ago. He got it in Viet Nam thru a field blood transfusion. He's taking the treatment for hep c now. He had opportunity to take it before now, but in the past the side effects were really bad and it only a 10 to 30% of being affective. Todays treatments have less severe side effects and a great chance of helping. Don't use alcohol or hard drugs and keep your liver from getting any more damage than it already has. A liver transplant is not a cure, the disease will show up again in a few years or so, but if your liver has a lot of damage, it could be worth it. Treatment is not a cure. There is no cure. What treatment does is lower the viral load to 0. If you stay at 0 for a year, they call it cured, but the disease can return from serious illness, or extreme stress. (I have met people in our educational cles that this has happened to)
